Why Appreciate Things?

Because our brains are hard-wired to look for danger (Is that a mammoth? I better run!) and we live in a negatively-focused society (watch any news lately?), many of us are regularly flooded with cortisol (the stress hormone) and it is easy to get bogged down with life’s challenges.

When you develop an appreciation practice,  you are rewiring your brain to look for pleasing things. It’s a nice balance to all that negativity. It helps make every day better — even when your days are challenging.

I started with a 21-day challenge to write down 3 new things I appreciate every day. Then I did it for another 7 years or so…

You can read about that journey — and maybe even be inspired to develop your own appreciation practice!
